Rex Wotton managed the West Coast Watersports center at Coral Reef hotel, just up the beach from Settlers Beach. The center took hotel guest diving and on daytime and sunset cruises along the coast. He was an expert seaman trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in all matters of ship navigation, sailing, diving, explosives, and marine work.
Rex Wotton was just one of the most captivating Rogues in Paradise. His sense of fun and sharp wit surrounded every situation. Rex was independent at an early age and often disappeared for days at a time, to camp along the banks of Joes' river . He built campfires from coconut husk and twigs and cooked his catch with breadfruit, wild okras, plantain, and edible vines. He ate mangoes, and local berries like fat pork, and sea grapes, that grow along the beach.
Cruising to St. Vincent with a friend at just 11 years old testifies to his sense of adventure. He encouraged others to take part him in high jinks and notorious adventures, making it all seem to be risk-free, effortless, and fun. Often reckless, he took extreme but calculated risks.
