How to Build an 8-Figure Business

Did you know there’s a HIDDEN SECRET that can give you the confidence to:

  • Close every deal
  • Inspire every audience
  • And build an 8-figure business?

Before I reveal the secret, let me tell you a quick story…

Many years ago, I was given the opportunity to become a speaker and trainer for Tony Robbins and Chet Holmes at Business Breakthroughs International. They handed me a 2.5-hour workshop script and said, "Here you go… learn it."

So, I did exactly as I was told.

And guess what?

Crickets.

I gave 2-3 trainings per week, but I didn't close a SINGLE Entrepreneur into their $5,000 Ultimate Business Mastery program. My confidence was shaky, despite having built two 8-figure businesses over the previous 10 years.

Now, this story isn’t unique to me…

According to a recent study by Harvard Business Review, even top-performing CEOs experience self-doubt. What separates the successful ones is their ability to manage and overcome it—And THAT’S the hidden secret.

Confidence isn't about never doubting yourself; it's about managing those doubts effectively. It’s about finding resilience in uncertainty, and it starts with these 3 strategies:

Strategy #1: Focus on Your Mindset

Your mind is like a garden; what you plant and nurture will grow… so make sure you’re always planting seeds of confidence and positivity. I did this by revisiting an audio program I bought when I was 16 that teaches how to do exactly that.

I listened to it twice a day back then, and it reminded me that belief in yourself is everything. This consistent reinforcement helped me rebuild my confidence from the ground up.

Strategy #2: Focus on Serving

I stopped worrying about closing deals and started caring about truly serving those I was training. Because when you genuinely aim to help others and provide value, it creates a natural confidence that resonates with people. They can sense your authenticity and are more likely to trust and invest in what you’re offering.

The Tenach (Hebrew Bible) explains it best:

"And you draw out your soul to the hungry, and an afflicted soul you sate, then your light shall shine in the darkness, and your darkness shall be like noon."

Isaiah 58:10

Strategy #3: Be Authentic

I stopped following the script word-for-word and instead infused my personality and experiences into the training. After introducing Chet and Tony, I asked the audience if they wanted to know a little about me, why I’m here, and why I’m qualified to share this information. They always said yes, so I shared what I had built along with my personal stories and struggles. This one little shift changed everything.

Because at the end of the day, people connect with stories and authenticity. So by going off-script and showing your true self, you can build deeper connections and trust with your audience.

After implementing these 3 strategies, my confidence soared. As a result, Entrepreneurs began investing in the business growth program, and soon, students were even requesting me to be their personal coach.

Within 90 days, I was enrolling people at the highest levels ever seen in the company—A 63.4% increase over the previous average enrollment rate!

And the success didn't stop there; it kept growing.

So, the next time you’re experiencing self-doubt due to an unexpected failure, refer back to these 3 strategies.

Remember that confidence isn't about never doubting yourself; it's about managing those doubts effectively.

To your success,

David

The ‘One Minute’ Rule Can Change Your Life…

Have you ever noticed that the most successful people are often the most productive? There's a reason for that… 👇

In life, whether you want to achieve financial stability, personal growth, or professional success, the amount of time, energy, and effort we put in tends to directly correlate with what we get out.

Put maximum effort in? Get maximum results.

Put minimal effort in? Get minimal results.

So let’s face it—Minimal effort does not equate to maximum output. Yet, we all know someone who seems to always have a story.

You know…The ones who always have a reason for why they can't, why they didn't, or why they won't.

  • "I CAN’T start my business because I don't have enough money."—Yet they never look for ways to raise funds or start smaller.

  • "I DIDN’T go to the gym because I'm too busy."Despite spending hours on Netflix or social media.

  • "I WON’T invest in learning a new skill because it's too late for me."—Ignoring the many successful late bloomers who prove otherwise.

Their days are filled with 10% effort, and they often wonder why they haven’t achieved anything significant yet. Proverbs directly speaks to this:

“The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing."

— Proverbs 20:4

But there is good news:

You have the power to choose your path starting at this moment.

Productivity is an easy habit to fall into once you create momentum. Just like a muscle, the more you exercise your will for action, the stronger it becomes.

These days, many Entrepreneurs are starting to fall into the ‘all or nothing’ trap.

They want to launch a perfect product, have the perfect strategy to scale, or write the perfect book in one go. But they hold back because they feel they aren't fully prepared or it's not the right time. This mentality only leads to paralysis by analysis.

If this sounds like someone you know, I encourage you to share the 'one-minute rule' with them. Spend just one minute every day on the task you’ve been avoiding.

Yes…Just ONE MINUTE.

Why? Because one minute is infinitely better than zero minutes. Imperfect action beats perfect inaction every day.

How does this work? Start with something small.

  • If it’s exercise, do a one-minute workout.
  • If it’s writing, write for one minute.

  • If it’s your business, spend one minute brainstorming ideas or doing research.

Once a habit of one minute has been established, it’s easier to bump up to five minutes, then ten, and before you know it, an hour or more can be dedicated to achieving a goal each day.

This gradual increase isn’t just about building stamina; it’s designed so one can overcome the mental barrier that stops them from starting in the first place. It's about proving to our unconscious mind that we can commit to our goals, no matter what they may be.

It’s like the domino effect—Pushing that first, tiny domino creates a chain reaction that can topple much LARGER dominoes. Each small step taken today is a mini victory that sets the stage for future, larger successes.

So, let's make a commitment today, no matter how small. Who knows? It could be the single push that starts an avalanche of success you've been dreaming about. Or if you’re already on the right track, forward this email with someone who needs to hear this message.

Small steps can lead to giant leaps, and it all starts with just one minute.

To your success,

David

Focusing on Serving instead of Doing

Hey fellow entrepreneurs! Ever feel like you’re always in go-go-go mode? After 35 years of non-stop hustle, I’m here to share some insights that might just change your perspective. At 55, I’m reflecting on what I missed and what I don’t want to miss moving forward. The key? Shift your focus from just doing to truly serving.

Inspired by the book “The Goal” by Eliyahu Goldratt, I realized we often become the bottleneck in our own businesses. By focusing on our health, surrounding ourselves with people who align with our core values, and leveraging digital tools, we can create more meaningful, balanced lives.

🤯 Less Work, More Results? Here’s How…

How often do you find yourself juggling multiple tasks and projects, only to realize at the end of the day that you’ve made no significant progress in any particular direction?

Frustrating? Absolutely. It happens to the best of us.

So what if I told you there was a way to break free from this cycle?

Personally, focusing on the ONE thing that will move the needle toward achieving my goal was what changed things exponentially for me.

I learned this tactic in the book, "The ONE Thing" by Gary Keller. 👇

1707747292009?e=1714003200&v=beta&t=g4gNaGOXGUFk49Wj2oEXloBmrx7psPYaz-3FmU5hrzQ

For example, when we onboard a new client here at Business Nitrogen, we often break the project down into a 45-day ramp-up period, and then into 90-day sprints moving forward. Each sprint revolves around ONE significant goal we aim to achieve by the quarter's end.

Sure, there are various moving pieces — From copywriting to branding to social media marketing and much more.

However, every team member, (regardless of their role), aligns their efforts toward achieving this one main objective. And guess what? When the 90 days come to an end and we hit that goal, the feeling of satisfaction is indescribable.

We're happy, our client is happy, and the sense of accomplishment resonates through every level of our team and theirs.

Now the question becomes…How can YOU incorporate “The ONE Thing” principle into your own business? 👇

  1. ❌ Recognize That Multitasking is a LIE

Today, multitasking is almost worn as a badge of honor. It’s become so mainstream that MILLIONS of people still boast it as a valued skill on their resumés.

But here's the harsh truth: Multitasking is not only inefficient, it's a productivity killer.

Gary argues that when we think we're multitasking, we're actually “switch-tasking”: Constantly shifting our attention from one task to another, which in reality, decreases productivity.

The problem with that?

This can actually waste more than 28% of our day due to the mental switching costs. (You know, getting back into the “groove” of things every time you switch back and forth).

1707747293549?e=1714003200&v=beta&t=u2GBh3HXfmSD4Rafc762F70FrLQrR_hRNHhIZ8bq5pA

And sure — While it is possible to perform two actions simultaneously like walking and talking, our brains are not wired to FOCUS on two cognitive tasks at once.

The attempt to do so leads to errors, missed details, and ultimately, less work being done. Think of it this way:

  • Surgeons cannot operate on two patients at once.
  • Teachers cannot grade papers while simultaneously lecturing a class.
  • Texting and driving (and that’s just a no-no regardless).

  1. 📝 Ditch Your To-Do List for a Success List

Most people love their to-do lists, don't they? They give people a sense of organization and control.

However, according to Gary, a typical to-do list is nothing but a road to average results. It's a mix of what we 'want' to do, with what we ‘NEED’ to do.

Instead, he introduces the concept of a 'Success List' — A shorter, more focused list that is aligned with your long-term goals.

Success lists are not about doing more, but doing what matters most. It’s about identifying that ONE task that, once completed, will make everything else easier or completely unnecessary.

Here’s how to get started…

Start by jotting down all the tasks you want to accomplish. You might end up with a list of say, 25 items.

Now, prioritize them and strike off the ones you can live without completing right away. You'll probably be left with ~5 critical tasks.

From those, choose the ONE task that you absolutely need to tackle first, before anything else. That’s what you should immediately focus on.

And as I always say, schedule it in your calendar to work on. In my world, if something isn’t on my calendar, it doesn't exist.

1707747293777?e=1714003200&v=beta&t=l33qve5m9jBDdDTP5RgCjKZCfoBT-D7ML-6beJ2eMwY

So use this exercise to drill down and find that ONE major task that will move the needle closer to your goals, and then prioritize and schedule it in your calendar.

  1. 🧠 Your Willpower is Not on Will-Call

Contrary to the popular belief that willpower is always at our disposal, ready to jump into action whenever we need it, Gary suggests otherwise.

Instead, think of willpower like the battery percentage on your phone. You start the day with it fully charged at 100%.

But as the day goes on, with each task you complete and decision you make, it's like using up a bit of battery.

71%... 44%... 19%...

By evening, (just like your phone), your willpower is likely to be running low, almost out of juice.

The solution?

Complete the most important task in your calendar (your ONE thing on your Success List) early in the day, when your willpower is at its peak. This ensures that your prime task gets the best of your energy and focus.

So, as you prepare to tackle the challenges of today, let's remember to shift our focus.

It's not about how many balls we can keep in the air, but about hitting the one crucial ball that'll score the game-winning home run.

With that, I’ll leave you with a quote that perfectly encapsulates Gary’s overall message to the world:

“IF YOU CHASE TWO RABBITS, YOU WILL NOT CATCH EITHER ONE.”

— Russian Proverb

Finding Balance in Business

As I crossed my 55th year on this planet in September, I started to have a lot of “ah-ha” moments…So let’s begin with a question: “Have you ever noticed that many times our journey as Entrepreneurs leaves us feeling like we’re on a bumpy and unstable rollercoaster? 🎢”

One minute, we’re on top of the world…Riding the high of closing a BIG sale or celebrating the most profitable month yet.

The next minute…

Crash and burn.

Suddenly, we’re dealing with a critical team member quitting without notice, or our go-to marketing strategy seems to be losing steam. Maybe the pipeline that looked so healthy has started to dry up.

Before you know it, our high disappears and we’re right back at the drawing board trying to get the business back to where it once was.

It may be worth noting that if life and business adhere to the same laws that apply to the universe, then it stands to reason that balance—Equilibrium—is the natural order of things.

For every skyrocketing success, there might be something that brings us down to maintain that cosmic balance (otherwise known as Newton’s 3rd Law). But what if we could negotiate those terms? What if we didn't always need to experience harsh setbacks for every victory?

Here’s the good news: You DON’T have to pay for every win with a loss.

Here’s how…

Let's start with intention. In the world of success, we often hear about people discussing vision boards and five-year plans, but how often do Entrepreneurs sit down and truly examine what they want out of life and business? If you say, "I want a $40 million revenue stream," that's great. And I hear things like this a lot… BUT…Why do you want it?

  • Is it to be able to take care of your family without worry?
  • To contribute to causes that mean something to you?
  • To create a legacy?

Your "why" informs your "how," and a well-defined why can often prevent you from experiencing those devastating lows (AKA the crash).

You also have to look at the downsides to what could happen if you achieve your goals…Or ask yourself what are the negatives to the success we just experienced.

Taught by Dr. Alok Trevedi, this neuroscience has been proven to work as he says because you're already operating from a space of balance.

You're not just amassing wealth for the sake of it; you're creating abundance to fuel passion while thinking about both sides of the equation.

The energy you expend doesn't leave a vacuum in its wake, needing to be filled by a contrasting, negative experience.

Instead, it creates a cycle focused on true wealth,   which in turn encourages more true wealth, and so on.

Equilibrium achieved. ✅

Now let's talk about pacing.

Life isn't a sprint; it's a marathon.

If you've set the lofty goal of building a multi-million-dollar company, that doesn't mean you need to hit seven figures in the first year (although I hear that number so many times).

It is important to realize that growing too fast can be a BAD thing. A prime example of this is what happened to the tech startup, Theranos.

Led by Elizabeth Holmes, Theranos promised to revolutionize the medical testing industry with the Nanotainer: A device that could quickly perform multiple tests with just a few drops of blood. 👇

Investors were intrigued by the vision and potential; billions were poured into the company, and it skyrocketed to a valuation of $9 billion+ at its peak.

However, the rapid growth and immense pressure to deliver results led to shortcuts, deception, and ultimately, a colossal FAILURE.

Not only was the technology found to be fraudulent, but the speed at which the company grew didn't allow for adequate governance or quality checks.

And I know that Holmes was a fraud…But what I don’t know is if that was her intention to begin with.  In the end, though, she hurt a lot of people and made thousands of investors lose a ton of money.

That brings me to my point…In order to avoid these highs followed by immediate lows, we want to operate with a laser-like focus on what we genuinely want to achieve, along with realizing what the downsides are if we achieve it.

For instance, I would much rather take on just one IDEAL client each month who perfectly aligns with our vision and values, rather than more clients who might not be an ideal fit.

Why?

Because the latter can lead to unneeded stress and, ultimately, the dreaded crash after the high as they won’t be destined to stay with us for a long period of time. It might sound less glamorous or “sexy,” but this methodical, steady approach not only makes your business more manageable, it also allows you the bandwidth to handle obstacles that may pop up, thereby reducing those Newtonian crashes.

And let’s remember: Life is a balancing act.

You can absolutely pour 110% of your energy into your work, but there's no rule, (unlike some of the new POP Culture business guru’s advice), saying you have to sacrifice EVERYTHING else to become successful. I’ve seen Entrepreneurs, including myself, miss their kids’ ballet recitals or soccer games for “just another hour (or five) at the computer.”

Fast forward a decade or two when your kids are all grown up, and you’d give anything to go back and make a different choice. (Trust me…I’ve been there).

So, as we're gearing up for an amazing 2024, let's aim for growth—Balanced, intentional, joy-filled growth.

Remember: It's not just about skyrocketing revenue and profits; it’s about skyrocketing a life well-lived and a business that supports it through standing the test of time.

To your success,

David
